EEG NEUROFEEDBACK

EEG NEUROFEEDBACK is a non-medication, non-invasive and painless intervention shown to enhance regulation of the brain and improve the brain’s ability to function. Our center believes in an evidenced based approach to the use of Neurofeedback. We use the Quantitative EEG (qEEG) or Brain Map with 19 channels of assessment in order to guide the Neurofeedback process. We DO NOT rely on canned protocols that target only a few sites based on symptoms alone. Rather, we use multiple channel training that looks at over 200 variables rather than just increasing or decreasing amplitude in a certain bandwidth or brain wave frequency.

Our Clinical Director, Linda Marshall-Kramer, OTR/L BCIA-BCN is Board Certified in EEG Neurofeedback. An IMPORTANT type of credential in the field of Neurofeedback is Board Certification by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA). The Quantitative EEG or Brain Map is administered and interpreted by Linda and Otto Kramer, MD.

According to BCIA “Professional certification is the voluntary process by which a non-governmental entity grants a time-limited recognition to an individual after verifying that predetermined and standardized criteria have been met. Because biofeedback is an unregulated field, certification is crucial for providing standards of care. To be viable as a professional service, standards of competence and clinical practice must be defined and measured. Since 1981, BCIA has taken on this task.”

Through the BCIA recertification program, a clinician is held accountable to a code of ethics, obtains specified continuing education, and maintains proper credentialing appropriate for clinical practice.

To become a Board-certified practitioner, one must:

  • hold an appropriate degree in a BCIA-approved clinical health care field
  • meet strict didactic education and clinical training requirements
  • pass a written certification exam
  • adhere to an ethical code of conduct which states that when working with a medical or psychological disorder, unlicensed providers must work under the supervision of an appropriately-credentialed provider.

Results of Neurofeedback include:

  • Ability to transition without disruption
  • Increased focus
  • Improvement in social skills
  • Increased calmness and decreased anxiety
  • Improved verbal communication or expressive language
  • Improved receptive language
  • Improved processing speed

Neurofeedback has been successfully used for:

  • Attention deficit (ADD/ADHD)
  • Anxiety
  • Autism
  • Learning disabilities
  • Mood disorders
  • Seizures
  • Migraines
  • Behavioral disorders
  • Tics
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
